Worknet of Merced County can assist you to find and keep a job. We have resources available to aid you in your job search ranging from resume writing workshops to Job Skill Assessment to determine your career path.

Worknet provides services and resources to people who are out of work, laid off, or working part time to obtain gainful employment. Training is one of the many services available to assist in the effort.

Welcome to Worknet’s Tour of Services

Worknet Orientation

By attending a Worknet Orientation you will obtain valuable information about available services to assist you in your job search. You can attend an orientation at any one of our two Worknet locations in Merced and Los Banos.

Worknet Employment Resource Center

If you are looking for a “full array” of employment and training services, stop by any one of the two Worknet Employment Resource Centers (ERC) located in Merced County. The Merced Worknet ERC is located at 1200 West 16th Street and the Los Banos Worknet ERC is located at 800 7th Street. Each location will provide you with “one-stop” services as you proceed through your job search.

A library containing books and videos on careers, labor market information, and current employment opportunities is available along with daily newspapers from the surrounding area.

Another Worknet ERC job search resource available to you is the Internet. Through the Internet you can search for current jobs that match your employment goal and apply on line with either an application and/or your resume. An added bonus is the counselor from the Employment Development Department (EDD) assigned to the Worknet ERC who can match job openings for you not only in Merced County, but elsewhere in California.

Basic Education

If required, training is available so you can obtain a GED or strengthen your basic math, English, and/or reading skills.

Vocational Training

A variety of upgrade training and vocational training classes are available. Classes to train you to become a truck driver, computer operator, medical assistant, or a secretary, are some of the options at technical institutes in Merced, Modesto, and Fresno. Adults are trained in skills that are needed for jobs in Merced County.

On-the Job Training (OJT)

Companies hire new employees through On-the-Job training contracts. You can be trained by a local employer in skills needed for a particular job. You earn a wage while the employer is reimbursed for a part of the training cost. At the end of the OJT contract, you are a full-time employee and the company has an employee trained to its specifications and to its culture.

Readjustment Services

Losing a job and/or trying to find a job is a difficult experience. Worknet provides readjustment services to help you refocus your skills in light of the current job market. You will receive vocational counseling and job search assistance, help in preparing a resume, or interview practice, labor market information (who’s hiring, what are the average wage rates, what are the skills needed) and much more. All these services are free of charge.

Customized Training

An industry specific training program can be set up for an employer or a group of employees, so you can be trained in the skills needed in a particular industry.

Work Experience

If you have a limited work history or haven’t worked in many years, you can work temporarily in a private or non-profit organization to gain work place experience before going into employment or vocational training .

Entrepreneurial Training

Have you thought about being your own boss, having your own business? If you have the ability and persistence to go into business for yourself, then entrepreneurial training is available.
